Research Description:

My research focuses on investigating the actions of progesterone and estrogen on the hypothalamic circuitries that govern energy homeostasis. Pharmacological and genetic models have been used to determine that progesterone, most probably via estrogen-induced progesterone receptors, increase visceral adiposity, body mass, food intake and may lead to leptin and insulin resistance. In addition, work is being done to understand the molecular constituents and signaling pathways responsible for the modulation of energy homeostasis by these hormones.
